The day that Sherman got put down was painful for me. I had been through this 2 years earlier with Marley, and knew how hard this process was. We departed to the vet in the morning, not wanting to let Sherman go. We got to the vet and knew what would happen next. The hardest part was not knowing if I would ever have a dog as great as Marley and Sherman again. We went into the room that was prepared for us, and began to cry. I didn't know if Marley could hear me from doggy heaven, but I knew he was ready for Sherman to join him. We went through the process, which I am not going to describe, as it is extremely sad. When we got home, what happened next surprised us, and made us feel better about losing another dog. We were greeted by an outline of a black lab sitting in my neighbors' yard. Everyone in my family saw it, and we knew it was Marley telling us that Sherman was ok and was in his care. We knew that our dogs were together again, and were safe and happy. From this day on, we know that Marley and Sherman were ok when they dog put down, and were together at last in heaven. Although some people may not believe that we saw what we saw, everyone in my family agreed that Marley was there that day.
I now have two beautiful dogs, and think about Marley and Sherman from time to time. I know that they are safe together, and are happy as can be. I hope that everyone who has lost a dog recently knows that once your dog passes away, it still loves you and will always be there for you. Losing Marley and Sherman was hard, but knowing that they were safe and happy gave me comfort.
R.I.P Marley and Sherman. Brothers, Best Friends, and Great Pals. We remember you always!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
This poem is beautiful and I knew I should include it.
If you recently lost a pet, things will get better. Your dog still loves you and is waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge.
